This new development was built to host beach volleyball at the 2017 Canada Summer Games and was built inside the Susan Auch Oval, an outdoor ¼ mile speed skating venue. It is also part of a community recreation complex named after Cindy Klassen, a Winnipegger, Canada Games alumni, six-time Olympic medallist and four-time World Champion speed skater. Originally planned as a temporary build, the relationship between speed skating’s winter training season and the summer use by beach volleyball created the opportunity for 10 permanent beach volleyball courts following the Games.
